Buying rough rather than finished stones

Saudi Arabia has a substantial domestic jewellery trade, and much of it is retail-facing: the person who ultimately buys the piece is in the room. That changes what a stone has to be able to withstand. A customer who asks where an emerald came from wants an answer that holds together.

Imperial Emeralds is a family-operated business built around a direct relationship with Panjshir, Afghanistan. One family carries the work, and the responsibility, from source to presentation. Our relationship begins in Panjshir, close to where the material is found.

Buying rough rather than cut stones puts the yield decision in your hands. It also means the material arrives as it was found, with its matrix and natural character intact, which is exactly what we photograph and document.

What we offer

Material is presented in three curatorial categories, all from Panjshir. They are our own descriptions of character and form — not grades, and not independent gemmological classifications.

We do not issue certificates and we do not assign quality grades. What we present is the material itself, documented and preserved with its natural character intact, so that you can make your own judgement or have it assessed by a laboratory you already trust.

How to open a conversation from the Kingdom

Write to us in English, describing the form, quality band, volume and documentation you need. We will prepare a relevant private selection against that brief.

We have no office, agent or representative in Saudi Arabia, and we make no delivery, customs or import undertaking on this page. Commercial and logistical terms are agreed case by case, in writing.

We will prepare a relevant private selection against that brief. Material is photographed honestly, and records are shared as they exist — nothing more. We issue no gemmological certificate and assign no grade.
